Coach Isaiah Sexton meeting future players

The Molalla River School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Isaiah Sexton as the next head football coach for Molalla High School. Coach Sexton was selected following a competitive interview process where he stood out for his vision of empowering student-athletes through belief, discipline, and collective effort.

Coach Sexton has a decade of coaching experience, recently serving Estacada High as the assistant head football coach and defensive coordinator. His experience includes collegiate and high school coaching roles at the University of Oregon, Minot State University, the University of Puget Sound, Woodburn High and South Eugene High Schools.

He earned his master of arts in teaching at Corban University, a master of education from Minot State University and a bachelor of science from the University of Oregon. He and his wife, Kyanna, are the proud parents of their toddler, Sienna.

“Coach Sexton clearly articulated his ability to create a positive team culture, and his understanding of athletics as a vehicle to engage young people impressed the hiring committee members,” said Athletic Director Mike Lord. “He is focused on developing our players to be successful in life and on the field,” Lord added.

Coach Sexton expressed his readiness to lead the program: “I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to lead Molalla High’s football program. We are going to attack the process with these young men and build a program that the community can be proud of — one that demands discipline and relentless effort.”

The hire comes at a transformative moment for Molalla youth sports. Thanks to the philanthropic leadership of the Burghardt, Holden and Shuholm families who made lead gifts. So far, $2.7 million has been committed for installing of a turf field, resurfacing of the track and making improvements at the Burghardt Sports Complex. The final fundraising effort to complete the construction by Fall 2026, needs $300,000 from individuals or businesses and that effort will occur from March to May 2026.
