With heavy hearts, we share this information from the Jensen family. Keith Reginald Jensen, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 1, 2026, at Hope Village.
While our hearts mourn his passing, we are grateful that his final moments were peaceful and that he was surrounded by the compassionate caregivers at Hope Village, who treated him with such kindness, dignity, and respect.
To us, he was Dad. To so many others, he was Coach, Teacher, Mentor, Colleague, and Friend.
Keith was a remarkable man whose life touched countless people. He inspired generations of students and athletes to believe in themselves, work hard, do their very best, and never give up. His encouragement, patience, and unwavering belief in others left a lasting impression that extended far beyond the classroom and the playing field. The many stories that have been shared over the past several weeks are a testament to the extraordinary difference one person can make in the lives of so many.
Our family has been deeply moved by the outpouring of prayers, memories, kind words, and love from former students, athletes, friends, neighbors, and caregivers. Reading your stories has brought us tremendous comfort and has reminded us of the incredible legacy Dad leaves behind. Thank you for surrounding our family with such compassion during this difficult time.
A Celebration of Life honoring Keith will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Canby Senior Center. We would be honored to have all whose lives were touched by Keith join us as we celebrate a life of service, dedication, and lasting influence.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to honor the causes that were closest to Dad's heart. Keith had a deep love for animals, the Molalla community, and the people who welcomed him later in life with friendship and kindness at the Canby Senior Center. Donations in his memory may be made to the ASPCA, the Oregon Humane Society, the Molalla Union High School Alumni Association, or the Canby Senior Center.
Thank you for the lives you changed.

For the 2026-27 school year, the Board of Directors approved starting school BEFORE Labor Day, on August 31, 2026 in order to facilitate the earlier end date of June 9, 2027. The new Molalla River Middle School will open in September 2027 and ample time is needed for staff to move classrooms, the old building to be abated and demolished, new parking and bus lanes to be installed and the final stages of the school to be completed. We want to provide sufficient time for staff and contractors to complete this exciting project. Starting BEFORE Labor Day will be invaluable and will only be for the 2026-27 school year. We will return to a post Labor Day start in 2027-2028.

At Molalla High School, a lockdown was accidentally initiated when a staff member unintentionally deployed their panic button at 12 pm. This was not a drill or expected; it was a human error. All staff and students promptly responded following our protocols.
The Molalla Police promptly confirmed it was an accidental alarm trigger and began releasing classrooms following protocol. Students and staff returned to regular schedules and activities by 1:05pm.
We realize that any such event is stressful. We are working directly with the alert company, our technology director and district office administrators, and Molalla Police Department to implement necessary adjustments to reduce human error.
We believe that the overall safety of students and staff is worth the investment into working through these challenges.

MRSD Social Studies Curriculum Adoption
Molalla River School District has engaged in an extensive vetting process of instructional materials for Social Studies. We coordinated teams of teachers and staff in reviewing materials that the Oregon Department of Education has identified as high quality based on the Oregon Instructional Materials Evaluation Toolkit (OR-IMET) rubric. The teams used specific criteria and district instructional priorities to select the programs that best meet the needs of our students. We seek public feedback to help our School Board finalize their decision.
Materials: https://www.molallariverschools.org/page/curriculum-adoption
We ask willing community members to review these materials and give feedback to our school board. The school board will consider public comment as it decides whether to accept the recommendations of the adoption committees.

Molalla High School is re-occupied. Earlier the school had a gas leak.
This is what we know:
-Gas leak was detected around 12:40 pm
-Molalla High School evacuated fully to safe distance
-Due to cold people were relocated into school buses for warmth
-NW Natural gas located the source of the leak (kitchen)
-NW Natural capped off the leak
-Molalla High was re-occupied
-NO INJURIES
-Students who have second lunch were not served and we are serving grab and go from available food.
-Parents and staff received three messages about the incident as information was available.
-Molalla Fire, Molalla Police, NW Natural Gas and First Student responded and their quick response is GREATLY appreciated.
-Source of leak was kitchen
-Staff and students are evacuated in school buses
-More information will be provided ASAP
More information will be released as soon as possible. Because we are so near the end of the school day, the most likely scenario is students released as usual by bus/personal car.
