students sign yearbooks

Mulino Elementary School fifth grade students spent a good portion of the last Friday of the school year celebrating their impending move to middle school. Students got their own custom t-shirts as keepsakes, with each shirt signed and decorated by their classmates. This was done as a group exercise, with the shirts laid out on desks and tables and students circulating a the classroom signing each shirt in turn.

Next came a group yearbook signing party in the school gym. Each student was given their 2024-25 yearbook and spent the next hour passing them around for everyone - including teachers and other staff - to sign and draw in. While they may not realize it now, these books will be increasingly valuable in the future, and particularly for those who wind up with their own children in school.

Speaking of which, the final element of Friday's celebration came after yearbooks were signed when parents and family of the fifth graders trooped into the gym for a graduation ceremony of sorts. Each student's name was called, at which time they marched in front of the crowd to receive a certificate of completion and a brief round of applause.

A final send-off for Mulino students was set to be held at the end of the final (half) day of school on March 10. But the real ceremony came on a special Friday for everyone.

Below is a collection of photos from last Friday's festivities:
