Mulino students participated in a learning project that crossed academic areas, including reading, writing, art and social emotional learning. Research shows that student's learn and retain information best when multiple parts of their developing brains are engaged. Not only was the learning great, the art was inspiring and the students dreams were on display.
Principal Cathy Mitchell gave every teacher the Joanna Gaines book titled, "The World Needs You to Be Who You Were Made to Be," and the project took off from there! The book was given to teachers to generate a writing piece that will be cross scored based on the Oregon Writing Scoring Guide. A continuum of writing development will be created to demonstrate what age appropriate writing looks like from Grade K-5 all based on the same book. Teachers emphasize the importance of self identity and individuality and the beauty of being one of a kind.
